An ode to my typewriter
Lost in messy processes? The best way forward might be something you’ve already left behind.

Happy Thursday! 🐔
If you’re in the UK, you might be on half-term right now. And honestly – who wants to read about marketing strategy when they’re enjoying some well-earned time off? If you are working, take this as permission to switch off for a minute.
Today, I want to talk about something a bit different – how I approach copywriting.
I’ve spoken before about AI and how strategic marketers need to work with it, finding the right balance between automation and human craft. I’m not against it – I even build my own custom GPTs to speed up my workflows.
But when it comes to client homepage messaging, there’s one tool I always reach for first.
It used to be pen and paper. But last month, I switched things up.
My Olivetti Dora 1970s typewriter. 🪄
I originally bought it for creative writing, but it’s become a lifesaver – shopping lists, journaling, even mapping out life goals with the Hubbie. More than anything, I wanted a way to truly disconnect. No screens, no distractions, no bright-light headaches.

And it’s been a game-changer.
When work feels overwhelming, typing on my Dora brings me back to ideas with fresh creativity – without the usual digital biases (you know, when you write a line, instantly hate it, then delete the whole thing).
By the time homepage messaging or landing page copy is done, there’s been a whole lot of human thought behind it – no shortcuts, just real strategy and craft.
(Plus, the tappy tappy noises bring me pure joy. 😂)
And something else happens when I write this way. Even when I mistype a letter or forget to move the page up, I find myself writing more succinctly, with more clarity – and often, with better ideas.
It’s funny how sometimes, the best way forward isn’t about finding something new – but about rediscovering something old.
So here’s my little nudge for you this week:
Revisit an old process you used to swear by.
Try a brainstorming technique you abandoned for something shinier.
Dust off a tool you loved before everything went digital or before you went down a productivity tool rabbit hole.
Sometimes, going back to basics – even just for a while – helps you see things in a completely new way. It might just get you unstuck. And maybe, just maybe, it’ll bring you the clarity you’ve been looking for.
(More serious marketing strategy tips resume next week!)
For now, whether you’re on half-term or just trying to get through the shortest month of the year – I’m with you.
Tania 🙂
